Star Voice of India : Savera wahi hai, jahan basera ho!

When I was in my school final, a play written by me won a prize in Inter-school competition (the credit ofcourse goes to all the actors) – I hardly remember that incident in my life, not to mention the number of people who actually told me that these extra-curricular activities do not add up on your resume. But my dad still treasures that tiny trophy and is still placed in the showcase back home. Later I discovered that my dad was actually a very good writer, excelling in two different languages and was also the secretary of cultural association of his college. When I asked him why he never told me any of that before, he simply said “I almost forgot about that until I saw a glimpse of me, in you”.

Last week, when Voice of India celebrated Parents Day or may I say Family Day – it brought back those fine memories from my childhood. Be it Sumitra’s mom who sang better than her daughter; Irfan’s soulful rendition of ‘Lukka Chuppi’ that reminded guest Manish Acharya(director of ‘Lions of Punjab) of his mother, who he said had passed away few years ago or Mirande’s mom who prepared her favorite cake or Ishmeet’s father who couldn’t control his tears when he said he’s proud to be called ‘Ishmeet ke papa’ or Harshit’s rendition of ‘Root ke humse kahi jab chale jaoge tum’(Jo jeeta wohi Sikander – composed by Jatin-Lalit) which initiated Shabana Azmi to bridge the gap between estranged brothers Jatin and Lalit (I always wondered why Lalit called his brother Jatin Ji and not Bhaiyya) or Abhilasha and her Father singing a duet(so cute) or when Abhaas couldn’t pick up his second antara how his brother helped him finish the song or Shaan’s mom making a surprise entry in the end – there were many such moments on Friday’s episode that left a lot of people teary eyed, making the families happy and proud of their kin.

And flashing the contestant’s childhood pics or pics with their family while they were performing was a masterstroke by the production team. Bravo. It is one of those rare moments when you are glad that reality shows happenend.

And all this made me realize how rarely we express our love towards our parents and on this occasion all I want to say is – Mom and Dad, I love you.
